What happens in rhinoplasty?

RHINOPLASTY IS SURGERY THAT IS UNDERTAKEN TO IMPROVE THE SHAPE OR FUNCTION OF THE NOSE; IT’S COMMONLY KNOWN AS A NOSE JOB.

What happens in rhinoplasty?
Sometimes rhinoplasty is carried out for medical reasons, to correct someone’s breathing, or to realign defects caused during an accident, or at birth. Our noses always keep growing on our bodies, so surgery may need to be carried out later in life as the shape of the nose changes. Rhinoplasty can also be carried out for cosmetic reasons, with people who undergo the procedure claiming the surgery has a hugely positive impact on their lives, helping to improve their self-confidence.

THE SURGERY

Usually with rhinoplasty you’re considered an outpatient, so you won’t have to stay in hospital overnight. You’ll either be given a local anaesthetic to numb the pain or a general anaesthetic to put you to sleep throughout the procedure. During surgery, the surgeon make cuts within the nostrils, usually inside of the nose to minimise scars after surgery. The inner bone and cartilage will be realigned to produce an appearance that the individual feels is more pleasing and in line with their expectations. In more complicated cases, the surgeon can also opt to make cuts along the base of the nose.

THE RECOVERY

For the first week after surgery, patients usually wear a nose splint to ensure the changes made to the nose are maintained. There is often swelling and bruising which occurs around the nose and the eyes in the days immediately after surrey, which is nothing to worry about about. Usually after the third day, this begins to improve, but depending on the surgery, it can take up to two weeks for this bruising to disappear.
Your nose will continue to decrease in swelling over the next 6 months, by which point you’ll be able to clearly assess the changes that have been made and see the full results of your surgery.

Interesting facts you didn't know about rhinoplasty

MOST PEOPLE HAVE HEARD OF A RHINOPLASTY (NOSE RESHAPING),

Interesting facts you didn't know about rhinoplasty

AND IT IS A PROCEDURE THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH MANY CELEBRITIES WHO ARE LOOKING TO IMPROVE THEIR APPEARANCE.

HOWEVER, HERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PROCEDURE.

Ancient cosmetic surgery
It’s thought that the first rhinoplasty was carried out in India about 2,500 years ago! In the 18th century, a book was discovered that explained how a similar technique to those used today was used to repair noses that were cut off or damaged in battle. As a result of the discovery, the rhinoplasty was brought to England and has been carried out ever since.
Most popular
Rhinoplasty is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery of the millions of procedures carried out worldwide. Other cosmetic treatments in the top five include breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, and eyelid surgery.
It’s not ‘plastic’
A nose reshaping procedure is often referred to as ‘plastic’ surgery; however, skin and cartilage from other parts of the patient’s body are commonly used in order to carry out reconstructive work. Skin is usually taken from the forehead, whilst cartilage is removed from the rib area.
The term ‘plastic’ is actually derived from the Latin, ‘plasticus’ and the Greek, ‘plastikos’, meaning to shape or mould. The term was in use long before plastic was even invented!
Rhinoplasty – not just for cosmetic reasons
Although rhinoplasty is most commonly used for cosmetic reasons, it is also a technique that is employed to repair noses that have sustained damage due to accidents, birth defects or cancer. Medical issues, such as deviated septum, which can cause breathing difficulties, can also be corrected by rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty is also used to help in cases of low self-esteem and depression where someone’s body image is crucial to their mental health and wellbeing.
Most people have rhinoplasty to correct the appearance of their nose, for example, cosmetic surgery can be used to make a short nose longer, to straighten a crooked one, or to flatten a pronounced Roman nose. However, the ancient procedure can also be used to treat some medical problems and to repair noses damaged as a result of disease or trauma. Contact us today if you’re considering rhinoplasty yourself.

Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty) for Men & Women

Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty) for Men & Women

Nose surgery for Men & Women
As the focal point of the face, a problem with the nose is often a major problem for an individuals self-esteem and confidence. A crooked or disproportionate nose can distort the proportions of the whole face. At The Belvedere Clinic we have a solution for all types of nose reshaping that not only improves the image of the nose but of the whole face.

Our plastic surgeon can change the shape of the tip, the bridge and also the nostrils can be changed as can the angle between the nose and the upper lip.

Procedure

A nose reshaping operation normally involves separating the soft tissue that lies on top of the nose from the bone and cartilage underneath. Depending on the operation, the surgeon might break the nose bone and reposition it, and/or reshape the cartilage.
The procedure differs depending on what the individual patient wants to get out of their rhinoplasty surgery but the majority of the scarring will be inside the nose and so not visible. Your surgeon will be able to give you greater detail on your surgery at your consultation.

Recovery

After your Rhinoplasty procedure you will have a plaster of paris (POP) over your nose, which will be removed about 10 days after but must be kept dry at all times prior to removal. 4 weeks after the POP has been removed massage the nose gently, working with finger tips from the nasal tip upwards. You can clean the nostrils gently with cotton buds soaked in warm saline after 10 days and should avoid sneezing, coughing or anything that may increase pressure around the nose. You should not consume alcohol or take aspirin for 10 days. Your surgeon will discuss this in detail with you however if you have any queries feel free to call us on the number below.
Helpful advice - It is worth anticipating your own reaction to the first sight of yourself and your new nose. To start with, you will look rather strange in the mirror and not quite ‘you’ because of your different nose. Remember that it takes a few days for your mind’s eye to adjust itself to your new appearance and to recognise it as ‘you’.

If you’re one of the 10 per cent of Brits who isn’t happy with the shape of their nose then you’re in luck – scientists have discovered the formula for the perfect nose.
According to boffins at New York University the perfect nose is upturned to 106 degrees – like Kate Beckinsale, Kate Middleton and Scarlett Johansson.
The news has come out of a comprehensive study by Dr Omar Ahmed, who claims that this perfect angle not only makes your nose look better, but has the power to make the rest of our facial features look better.
With nose surgery always popular among clients, around 3,891 rhinoplasty operations are carried out in Britain each year - now there’s a magic formula for the perfect nose that number could rise.
According to Dr Ahmed, the search for the formula has been ‘elusive and ongoing for decades’ – but now it appears to have been ended.
So why not contact us today to see if the formula can be applied to you and whether it will suit you – and perhaps you too could look like Jessica Biel or the Duchess of Cambridge.

Patients who undergo this procedure often feel more confident about their appearance and may experience a boost in self esteem. Nose Reshaping Surgery has functional benefits as well, and is effective solution for patients who suffer from certain breathing difficulties.

Are There Risks Associated with Nose Reshaping Surgery Rhinoplasty?

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved with rhinoplasty. Bleeding, infection, and reactions to medication or anesthesia are possible side effects of a nose job. In addition, there are several risks that are unique to nose reshaping surgery. These include burst blood vessels that can lead to red spots and small scars on the underside of the nose. Choosing Our qualified cosmetic surgeon will reduce the risk of complications.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from a Nose Reshaping Surgery Rhinoplasty?
While some results of a Nose Job rhinoplasty can be seen shortly after surgery, the full effect of Nose Reshaping Surgery can take up to 1 year to develop. After swelling has subsided, patients will have a better idea of the final result. The amount of change that occurs following surgery is dependent on the treatment performed by our plastic surgeon. Even so, slight changes to the structure of the nose-sometimes as little as a few millimeters- can produce drastic and pleasing results. Scarring associated with nose reshaping surgery is minimal, and in the case of closed rhinoplasty surgery, is limited to the inside of the nose. To ensure satisfactory healing, it is important to follow our physician’s instructions for post-operative care.
How Much Does Rhinoplasty Nose Reshaping Surgery Cost?
Because the rhinoplasty procedure is different for each patient, the cost of treatment will vary depending on a number of factors.
